Last year, I took a “break” and visited the Gooch Family Reunion for the first time in several years. This reunion is for anyone descended from ol’ man Jim Gooch (1829-1913). I suppose anyone descended from Jim’s dad Tillman would be welcome as well!
For that 2021 Reunion (the 84th one!), I was nearly blind from my cataracts, with my surgery last fall being nothing short of fantastic – I can see!! (Thank you Milan Eye Center!)
I was able to add to my growing collection of Gooch Reunion Photos, however I was otherwise limited in my interactions with my cousins.
I will try to arrive about 9 or 10am, however things don’t really get going until a bit later – perhaps 11am. There’s a fairly brief update meeting in the church and then a potluck lunch in the open-air pavilion. There will be some activities for the children!
The location is the old Mt. Airy Church, 619 Mt Airy Rd, Suches, GA 30572 (map link)
This year, I will set up tables under a canopy and will be prepared to scan photos and documents for folks. I will distribute the digital copies as they see fit and they get their precious family history heirlooms back right away. Win-Win!
I will also be giving away lots of photos, especially of past reunions.
So, break out your best potato salad recipe and a water bottle and come on up to Suches!
